More Than 20 Swindon Roads Resurfaced in Summer Programme

More than 20 roads have been resurfaced as part of Swindon Borough Council’s ongoing investment in its highways network.

The summer programme has been delivered in line with the council’s Local Transport Plan, with improvements made to key residential streets and busy routes including Station Road, Colebrook Road, Eastcott Road and Bath Road, helping to provide smoother and safer journeys for road users.

The work forms part of the Council’s annual major and minor roads resurfacing programme, which will see more than £2m spent improving roads across the Borough this financial year. The programme has focused on roads identified through condition surveys and inspections, helping to target investment where it is needed most.

Planning is already underway for the next phase of resurfacing works, with schemes including Commercial Road and Crombey Street expected to be delivered early next year.

While the summer resurfacing programme has now been completed, work to improve Swindon’s highways network continues. More than 10,000 reactive pothole repairs have already been carried out across the Borough this year.

Work is also underway to improve footpaths across the Borough, with reconstruction work planned and underway at locations including Dorcan Way and Manchester Road.

Councillor Nick Gardiner, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said:

I’m really pleased to see these improvements which have been completed over the summer.

We know there is still more to do, but this programme is another important step in improving Swindon’s roads and investing in the infrastructure people use every day.

Work was carried out across the summer in order to reduce the impact on journeys for residents in the Borough. The team also take into account key times routes were being used, undertaking overnight works where necessary.

I’m working closely with our highways teams to shape and drive forward the next programme of works, with a clear focus on delivering better roads for residents. I’d like to thank our teams for their continued hard work in maintaining and improving our network.
