Swindon Students Celebrate GCSE Results Day Success

Students across Swindon are celebrating today (20 Aug) after receiving their GCSE results, marking the culmination of years of hard work and dedication.

The results of 2,374 students have been returned to the Council.

A total of 61.3 per cent of students achieved a pass rate (grades 9 to 4) in both English and Maths.

A total of 75.4 per cent of students achieved a pass rate (grades 9 to 4) in English, an increase from 72.4 per cent last year, and 71.7 per cent of students achieved a pass rate (grades 9 to 4) in Maths, an increase from 70.3 per cent last year.

Schools, teachers, families and support staff have joined students in celebrating their achievements as they prepare for the next stage of their education, training or employment.

Students and teachers from The Deanery Church of England Academy are celebrating an excellent set of GCSE results. The results show sustained improvement, with 48 per cent of the cohort achieving Grade 5 or above in English and Maths. In addition, the number of students achieving Grade 4 or above in both English and Maths is at 72 per cent.

At St Josephโ€™s Catholic College, there were outstanding individual success stories as well as an impressive overall performance by the year group. For a second successive year, a student achieved grade 9 in every one of his 10 GCSEs, plus a โ€˜distinction starโ€™ in the Extended Maths award - only about 690 students across the whole country achieve this each year.

Overall results at St Josephโ€™s showed that 66 per cent of students achieved grade 4 or above in both English and Maths, and 50 per cent achieved grade 5 or above in both of these subjects. Overall, 64 per cent of students achieved grade 4 or above in five or more GCSE subjects including English and Maths.

Councillor Kate Tomlinson, Swindon Borough Councilโ€™s Cabinet Member for Children and Education said:

Iโ€™m thrilled to celebrate the achievements of all Swindon students who received their exam results today. Behind every grade is a story of commitment and determination, every student should be proud of what they have achieved. These results represent hard work, supported by dedicated teachers and families. Congratulations to each and every one of you.

Jon Young, Executive Principal, The Deanery CofE Academy, said:

Itโ€™s an absolute pleasure to celebrate these excellent examination results with our pupils. We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved at The Deanery, which joined The Park Academies Trust two years ago. These outcomes reflect not only the hard work and determination of our young people, but also the strong partnership between school and home, and the unwavering commitment of our dedicated staff.

โ€œAt The Deanery, we are passionate about ensuring every child is known, supported and challenged to achieve their very best, and these results are a testament to that ambition. As we continue to build on our strengths and develop new opportunities for our pupils, we are excited about the future, and all that our school community can achieve together. We wish every student every success and happiness in their next steps.

Once again, we are all really proud of our students and the results they have achieved โ€“ this applies to every success story, whether from our SEN Unit, the St Aquinas Centre, from our Inclusion Centre, The Ark, or from our mainstream population of 270 students.

โ€œAs well as the congratulations due to each student, we also thank the teachers and parents whose support has underpinned the success evident today. We wish all our students the best for the next stage of their education and whatever the future holds for them. May God bless them all.
